Last week I learned sooooo much.  Not just about sewing, but about what it takes to stay focused on your project.  Some of the techniques are really, really hard . . . I mean “challenging”.  Dang!  But through all the hard work, what I left with is seeing hard work turn into fun.  I guess that’s what happens when you’re with your best friends, and doing something you love.

Now we’re smack dab in the middle of our projects.  For my money, it’s the most challenging time.  We’re kind of over the flush and excitement of something NEW and now facing the real sewing challenges our bold creativity has led us to.  That amazing tangerine lace that looked so tempting on the bolt is causing as much trouble as a cranky little sister.  But this is where we are learning to pull up our socks and face the twists and turns of our designs.  In the meantime, seeing our visions slowly take shape is that wonderful moment where frustrations are turning into excitement and pride.  

Everyone is a Fashion Star!  Let's Celebrate creativity!  Everyone had so much fun putting their fashion stamp on a ruffle tank.  Check out the cool colors, cool jeans, and cool friends.  Aren't  BFF's the best?

Just had to share a few of the drawings.  I am so astonished and proud and excited when I see all of the creative energy . .  just explode!  Who is their inspiration?  Do these ideas just bounce out of the air? Will the finished garment look like the drawing?  I can hardly wait to see what happens next!

Getting Started

This is my favorite time in a design . . . when things are just beginning to take shape.  The drawings have all been finalized, fabric selected and we're on our way!  Already we've discovered a few challenges - a ruffled fabric is causing a little trouble and we need to pin down every single layer!  A lot of work, but will be worth the effort in the long run.  Here are a few moments from the beginning . . . set to a killer Latin Beat.  Enjoy!  And Keep Sewing!!

A Trip to the Garment District

Every Session begins with a trip to our favorite fabric store in the Garment District - Michael Levine's.  This store is incredible, massive and inspirational!!!  Some of us showed up knowing exactly what we wanted - and found just what we were looking for.  Some of us came and were inspired by what we discovered and this led us to our final design.  Everyone left with a bag full of fabric and a huge smile. What inspires you?

Spring is Here!

I know it's Spring - not because the snow is gone.  Ha-ha! It never snows by the beach. So even if snow doesn't melt into daffodils, sweatshirts ARE turning into T shirts.  Yay!!  I also know it's Spring because it's Spring break and all of my friends are out of town on vacation.  I can hardly wait until next week when we start another session at the LJT Design Boutique.  What I'm really looking forward to is starting a fresh design and seeing what my super talented friends are going to come up with.  Here's a fun look back at last session.
